Tell us a little about your family.<\/strong> I\u2019ve<\/span> been married to my sweetheart Caleb for nearly 3 three years, and we have a 16-month old son named Caden<\/span>.
What other hobbies do you have besides scrapping and designing?<\/strong> Is there anything else besides scrapping? Just kidding! I like to bake (cookies and cheesecakes) and I enjoy reading.
When did you start Digi<\/span>-scrapping and who taught you?<\/strong> I discovered digi<\/span>-scrapping in 2007\u2014I was looking for a way to scrap on the computer and had no idea there was an ENTIRE industry! I had to wait until Christmas that year for PSE<\/span> so I could actually start creating LO\u2019s.
When did you start designing and how did you learn? I dabbled in designing from the very beginning, grabbing every tutorial I could. I\u2019m mostly self-taught, but I joined Amanda Rockwell\u2019s Inside the ScrapArtist<\/span> Studio last fall, and that has REALLY helped me discover new tricks. It was December of last year before I felt confident enough to start marketing my designs.
Which programs do you use to design?<\/strong> Adobe Photoshop<\/span> CS4 and Inkscape<\/span>.
Do you draw most of your items with a mouse, or hand draw and scan?<\/strong> Well, some are hand-drawn and scanned. Others are hand-drawn (mostly just rough sketches) and then I drag them into Inkscape<\/span> to \u201cdraw\u201d them. (My sweet sis-in-law is an artist, and has started providing me with some of the sketches I\u2019ve<\/span> been using in my designs\u2014thanks sweetie!)
Where does your inspiration come from?<\/strong> Everywhere! My husband, my son, clothes, magazines, music, advertisements, candy wrappers, clothes, words on a page\u2026
How did you pick your companies name?<\/strong> Well, SuzyQ<\/span> is a nickname. And I thought I\u2019d be clever by calling it SuzyQ<\/span> Scraps, since you could take it to mean the scraps I create, or that I myself scrap (these are SuzyQ<\/span>\u2019s scraps, or SuzyQ<\/span> scraps online). Plus, it had some alliteration, which is always good. \ud83d\ude09
Who are your favorite three designers?<\/strong> Amanda Heimann<\/span> is my all-time favorite! But if I have to choose two more (and it\u2019s probably not tactful to choose myself, lol<\/span>), I\u2019d have to say\u2026Amanda Rockwell and Heather Roselli<\/span>.
What are your favorite parts of a kit to design?<\/strong> I love solid papers, so those are always fun to design. I also enjoy coming up with a theme. Most of my kits have characters or drawings in them, and for those kits I really have fun trying to decide what the sketch will become\u2014just a sticker, or maybe molded clay, or perhaps a fuzzy felt critter. I just love to create!
What\u2019s your favorite kit that you’ve designed?<\/strong> It\u2019s a toss-up between Puddle Jumpers (which was one of my first kits, so it holds a special place in my designing heart) and Mommy\u2019s Lil\u2019 Monster.
What’s your least favorite?<\/strong> My least favorite to design was a freebie called Faith (it\u2019s on my blog). Don\u2019t get me wrong, I love how it turned out, but it was the hardest for me to create. I\u2019d received several requests for a kit with religious elements, from people of different faiths, so I struggled to incorporate enough of different religions to make it versatile but not too specific. It was tough!
How do you get started on a kit? Palette first? Rough idea on what you want your papers or elements to look like?<\/strong> Usually an idea pops in my head of something I\u2019d like to create. I jot down any ideas I have for it in a notebook while I start searching for a color palette. Once I have the colors, I do some more brainstorming, and then I start creating.
How long does it typically take you to make a kit?<\/strong> Hmm<\/span>\u2026depending on the kit, 3 to 5 days.
If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?<\/strong> If I could instantly become more patient, that would be fabulous!
What is the one word that best describes you?<\/strong> You want me to praise myself? I\u2019m not good at that, lol<\/span>. Hmm<\/span>\u2026I think I would go with genuine.
Who is the most important person in your life?<\/strong> Me! (And I don\u2019t mean that in a selfish way. If I don\u2019t take care of me, everything else falls apart.)
What is something that not many people know about you?<\/strong> I\u2019ve<\/span> been pecked by a penguin.
If you could travel anywhere where would you go?<\/strong> I\u2019ve<\/span> always been fascinated with Australia, but I would probably choose to go to Prague with dh<\/span>.
When you were little what did you dream of being when you grew up?<\/strong> A safari guide. \ud83d\ude09 Or an exotic animal trainer.
What is your favorite food?<\/strong> Chocolate!
What do you like doing with your family?<\/strong> Which family? If it\u2019s just me and dh<\/span>, I love to listen to music or play video games. If you toss in ds<\/span>, then we have more fun playing outside. And if we\u2019re visiting extended family, we enjoy playing games.
Where is your favorite place to be?<\/strong> In front of my laptop, designing. \ud83d\ude09 (Snuggling under the covers is a close second.)
What are three things that are important to you?<\/strong> Family, relationships, and learning
Is there anything you would change about your life?<\/strong> Just little things about myself\u2014you know, those little vices that we\u2019re always trying to overcome, those annoying little weaknesses that just don\u2019t seem to go away.
What are you afraid of?<\/strong> High places and deep water.
Do you collect anything?<\/strong> I love Suzy\u2019s Zoo\u2014especially stickers!<\/p>\n
