We think that&#8217;s what she wants to learn&#8230; we had some difficulty pinning it down since she wasn&#8217;t able to find the example she wanted to emulate. She described it as a framed photo that wasn&#8217;t perfectly perpendicular to the viewer, or not laying flat on the paper. She said that when she tried to do it herself it looked odd, because the photo didn&#8217;t match the perspective of the frame. So this is what I&#8217;ve come up with. <strong>Ellen<\/strong>, if it&#8217;s not what you wanted to learn, we&#8217;ll take another run at it.<\/p>\n<p>I started out with a frame (<a href=\"https:\/\/store.gingerscraps.net\/Seatrout-Scraps\/\"><strong>Seatrout Scraps<\/strong><\/a> <strong>Summer&#8217;s End<\/strong> &#8211; retired) that is resting partially on a grapevine wreath (<a href=\"https:\/\/store.gingerscraps.net\/Autumn-Odyssey-Kit.html\"><strong>Seatrout Scraps Autumn Odyssey<\/strong><\/a>). To make the steps more visible, they&#8217;re laying atop a paper from <a href=\"https:\/\/store.gingerscraps.net\/Ooh-La-La-Scraps\/\"><strong>Ooh La La Scraps<\/strong><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/store.gingerscraps.net\/Creepy-Digital-Scrapbooking-Collection.html\"><strong>Creepy<\/strong><\/a> kit, which I used extensively in the remainder of my layout.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18978\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"324\" height=\"320\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To make this technique work you&#8217;ll need PSE&#8217;s grid overlay to be visible. If you don&#8217;t use this tool, you&#8217;re missing out! You can do so many great things with it. To turn it on, click the <strong>View<\/strong> tab, then select <strong>Grid<\/strong> from the drop down menu.\u00a0<strong>WSNH<\/strong>= <strong>CTRL\/CMD&gt;&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong>Line up your frame so that the top and the bottom are either <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>on<\/strong><\/span> a line or <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>an equal distance from<\/strong><\/span> two parallel lines.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18979\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/1-2-500x273.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/1-2-500x273.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/1-2-768x419.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/1-2.jpg 790w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next step: <strong>Image&gt;Transform&gt;Distort<\/strong> where you&#8217;ll be moving the corners toward each other just the teensiest bit. I started with the top one and moved the <strong>handle<\/strong> (that square at the corner of the bounding box) vertically until it was halfway between two horizontal lines on the grid.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18980\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/2-2-500x341.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"341\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/2-2-500x341.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/2-2-768x524.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/2-2-115x77.jpg 115w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/2-2.jpg 774w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can see in the detailed screenshot below what I mean. You can also see that I kept the right edge parallel to the edge of the paper.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18981\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/3-2-500x355.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/3-2-500x355.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/3-2.jpg 657w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then I did the same thing at the bottom. <strong>DON&#8217;T Commit current operation<\/strong> until you&#8217;ve adjusted both corners!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18982\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/4-2-500x359.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/4-2-500x359.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/4-2.jpg 615w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So now the frame is slightly narrower at the right edge than it is on the left, just enough to be visible. And it looks like it&#8217;s touching the paper, but raised off it by the wreath.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18983\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/5-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"425\" height=\"227\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The photo I chose doesn&#8217;t provide a dramatic view of what needs to happen to the photo in this technique in the way a photo of a landscape might, but I still went ahead and adjusted it anyway.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18984\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/6-2-500x228.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"228\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/6-2-500x228.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/6-2-768x351.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/6-2-875x400.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/6-2.jpg 876w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You guessed it&#8230; I did exactly the same thing with the photo that I did with the frame.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18985\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/7-2-500x356.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/7-2-500x356.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/7-2.jpg 739w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The amount I shrunk it is the same as for the frame.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18986\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/8-2-500x260.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"260\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/8-2-500x260.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/8-2-768x399.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/8-2.jpg 839w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now it&#8217;s essential to create perfect shadows for this frame and photo so it looks natural and real. So I created a new layer just underneath the frame. <strong>Layer&gt;New&gt;Layer<\/strong> and then moved it down. \u00a0<strong>WSNH<\/strong>= <strong>CTRL\/CMD&gt;sheet of paper icon\u00a0<\/strong>puts it underneath automatically. Then I<strong> clicked on the layer thumbnail for the frame<\/strong> to select the outline of it, while my NEW layer was active.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18987\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/9-2-500x194.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/9-2-500x194.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/9-2-768x298.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/9-2-875x340.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/9-2.jpg 981w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Using the <strong>Fill tool<\/strong> (aka the <strong>paint bucket<\/strong>) and my shadow colour (<strong>2c1901<\/strong>) I filled the selection on that layer under the frame.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18988\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/10-2-500x246.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/10-2-500x246.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/10-2-768x377.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/10-2.jpg 812w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This shadow is going to be for the inside edge of the frame. So I resized it a little bit, as you can see by the location of the marching ants. I blurred the shadow layer using <strong>Filter&gt;Blur&gt;Gaussian Blur<\/strong> set at 7.1 pixels. You can choose what looks good to you.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18989\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/11-2-500x230.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/11-2-500x230.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/11-2-768x354.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/11-2-875x403.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/11-2.jpg 1155w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then I nudged the shadow into place with the direction of the light source coming from the upper left corner (120\u00b0). I turned the visibility of the photo off, since the background of it is dark, and I needed to see where I was putting the shadow.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18990\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/12-2-500x263.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"263\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/12-2-500x263.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/12-2-768x404.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/12-2.jpg 790w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To make it look more natural, I decreased the <strong>Opacity<\/strong> to 44%.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18991\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/13-2-500x208.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/13-2-500x208.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/13-2-768x320.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/13-2-875x365.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/13-2.jpg 1005w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I renamed the layer by double-clicking on the name in the <strong>Layers panel<\/strong> and called it <strong><em>Inner Shadow<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18992\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/14-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"478\" height=\"179\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then I repeated the steps for creating a shadow for the frame so that I could have a shadow under the framed photo. It&#8217;s on its own layer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18993\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/15-2-500x212.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/15-2-500x212.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/15-2-768x325.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/15-2-875x370.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/15-2.jpg 1049w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Look at all the practice you&#8217;re getting with <strong>Transforming images<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18994\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/16-2-500x315.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/16-2-500x315.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/16-2-768x483.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/16-2.jpg 836w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I pulled the lower left corner of the frame&#8217;s shadow down and away to add to the visual impression that the frame is resting on top of something thick, while keeping the lower right corner fairly close to the frame.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-18995\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/17-2-500x324.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"324\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/17-2-500x324.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/17-2.jpg 574w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then I moved that shadow layer underneath the photo and used the <strong>Smudge tool<\/strong> to enhance the realism of the shadow.
