Oh wait, that&#8217;s NEXT week&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I have a neat little visual trick for you to add to your digi-scrapping arsenal. Have you ever wanted to know how others get those cool folded papers they use? In 20 minutes you&#8217;ll be doing it yourself!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m showing this technique against a background of other papers but you can totally do it with a transparent background if you like. The papers below are the ones I&#8217;ve pulled onto a template (credits to follow) and if you look closely you can see that I&#8217;ve eliminated the shadow from the top, blue sponged paper by <strong>Clearing the Layer Style<\/strong>. Then when the <strong>tool options menu<\/strong> opens, tell it you want 3 sides. Use one of the colours from the paper, or white for your fill colour.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-22024\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2-1-500x474.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2-1-500x474.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2-1-612x580.jpg 612w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2-1.jpg 668w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t be concerned that PSE wants it to be an equilateral triangle, because you&#8217;re in control and you can bend it to your will. To make an isosceles or scalene triangle (yeah, I remember a bit of 10th grade geometry &#8211; some days I scare myself!) go to <strong>Image&gt;Transform Shape&gt;Skew<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-22025\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/3-1-500x326.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/3-1-500x326.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/3-1-768x501.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/3-1-875x571.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/3-1.jpg 1256w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Grab&#8221; one of the handles on the bounding box and pull it in the direction you want it to go, and adjust the shape to make a right triangle. (I turned visibility for the papers underneath off so these steps will be easier to follow.)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-22028\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/6-1-500x302.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/6-1-500x302.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/6-1-768x464.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/6-1-875x529.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/6-1.jpg 1178w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For this part of the process, you want to bottom edge of the triangle to extend past the bottom edge of the paper.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-22029\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/7-1-500x427.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/7-1-500x427.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/7-1-768x657.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/7-1-678x580.jpg 678w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/7-1.jpg 827w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now <strong>Select<\/strong> the edges of the triangle by clicking on the <strong>Layer Thumbnail<\/strong> to get those marching ants.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-22030\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/8-1-500x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/8-1-500x300.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/8-1-768x461.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/8-1-875x525.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/8-1.jpg 1181w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Look to see that you&#8217;re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">on the layer with the paper<\/span> you&#8217;re folding and not any of the others. Then <strong>Cut<\/strong> the triangle from the paper using the <strong>CTRL\/CMD&gt;X<\/strong> keyboard shortcut.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-22031\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/9-1-500x289.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/9-1-500x289.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/9-1-768x443.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/9-1-875x505.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/9-1.jpg 1178w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Go back to the triangle layer and <strong>Deselect<\/strong> it (<strong>CTRL\/CMD&gt;D<\/strong>) then drag it from one lower corner until that same edge you lined up with the paper&#8217;s edge is lined up with the new cut edge. Check that the pointy top of the triangle is exactly positioned on the edge of the paper as shown &#8211; zoom in as much as you need to. Then hit the green checkmark.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-22032\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/10-1-500x314.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"314\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/10-1-500x314.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/10-1-768x482.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/10-1-875x549.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/10-1.jpg 1362w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That should give you a little sliver of your paper visible right at the bottom of the image, as shown below. If you want to, you can adjust the shape or size of your triangle to make it happen, but that shouldn&#8217;t be necessary.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-22033\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/11-1-500x407.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/11-1-500x407.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/11-1-713x580.jpg 713w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/11-1.jpg 724w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Of course, this fold needs a proper shadow. Once again, <strong>Select<\/strong> the triangle by clicking on the<strong> Layer Thumbnail<\/strong>. Create a new layer underneath the triangle by <strong>CTRL\/CMD&gt;clicking<\/strong> on the <strong>New Layer<\/strong> icon &#8211; the single sheet of paper at the top left of the <strong>Layers panel &#8211;<\/strong> to put your shadow on. Then using the <strong>Paint Bucket tool<\/strong>, fill the selected area on that new layer with the shadow colour. If you&#8217;re using a template, you can right-click on the\u00a0<strong><em>fx<\/em><\/strong> icon on any of the shadowed layers then click on the colour swatch. <strong>Copy<\/strong> the colour number from the menu box. Then click on the <strong>Foreground<\/strong> colour on the <strong>Tools panel<\/strong> and <strong>paste<\/strong> the number into the same box. That way all the shadows will be the same colour. Now you&#8217;ve got a dark triangle layer underneath your folded paper. <strong>Nudge<\/strong> it over so you can see it.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-22034\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/12-1-500x261.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/12-1-500x261.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/12-1-768x401.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/12-1-875x457.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/12-1.jpg 1357w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Apply a <strong>Gaussian Blur filter<\/strong> to the shadow then tweak the <strong>Opacity<\/strong> down to somewhere around <strong>50%<\/strong>, or whatever looks similar to the existing shadows on your template. You can then change the <strong>Blend Mode<\/strong> to <strong>Linear Burn<\/strong> and your shadow is perfect. You can then <strong>Smudge<\/strong> the shadow layer so it&#8217;s narrower at the top of the triangle and wider at the bottom, as you&#8217;d expect to see if the folded paper isn&#8217;t lying directly on top of the paper under it. Another way to accomplish that is to slightly tilt the shadow.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-22035\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/13-500x286.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/13-500x286.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/13-768x439.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/13-875x500.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/13.jpg 1144w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve <strong>Cleared the Layer Style<\/strong> on your paper layer at Step One, <strong>add it back<\/strong> now.
