Then I play with the copies. <strong>CTRL\/CMD&gt;J<\/strong> will make one copy for each time you perform the keyboard shortcut. Or you can <strong>right-click<\/strong> on the layer in the <strong>Layers panel<\/strong> and select <strong>Duplicate Layer<\/strong>. I was originally going to just <strong>Erase<\/strong> the letter parts but thought better of it.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-28456\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/5-3-500x184.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"184\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/5-3-500x184.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/5-3-768x282.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/5-3-875x322.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/5-3.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I added a <strong>Layer Mask<\/strong> by clicking on the icon that looks like a square of paper with a circle in the centre, right there in the middle of the icons at the top of the <strong>Layers panel<\/strong>. Why? Because if I go too far with my <strong>Eraser<\/strong>, I can easily change the tool to a paint brush and paint back the part I should have left alone. It&#8217;s as simple as <strong>toggling<\/strong> between black and white in the <strong>Color Selector<\/strong>. To know which color is the one you want, remember the phrase &#8220;<strong>White conceals, Black reveals<\/strong>&#8220;. Keyboard shortcut? Same like with the font step. Otherwise, unless you&#8217;re paying particular attention (and I&#8217;m usually not&#8230; watching TV while I work is how I roll!) you won&#8217;t know what part of the layer you&#8217;re working on until you&#8217;ve committed some massive blunder and can&#8217;t reverse it. In retrospect, I really didn&#8217;t need this step, but I have the screenshots so I&#8217;m going to show you because it does tie in with a later step.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-28462\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/11-6-500x226.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/11-6-500x226.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/11-6-768x348.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/11-6-875x396.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/11-6.jpg 1106w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To quickly and easily change to colour of fonts and text, just create a <strong>Layer&gt;New Fill Layer&gt;Solid Color<\/strong>. But can you see in the screenshot that I <strong>Copied<\/strong> the snow cap layer <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">BEFORE<\/span> I added the <strong>Fill<\/strong> layer to the original snow cap layer? That&#8217;s another <strong>WSNH<\/strong> tip. I&#8217;m going to use a glitter <strong>Styles<\/strong> set from <a href=\"https:\/\/store.gingerscraps.net\/Just-So-Scrappy\/\"><strong>Just So Scrappy<\/strong><\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/store.gingerscraps.net\/Lucky-Me-CU-Photoshop-Styles-Bundle.html\"><strong>Lucky Me<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0bundle. Just a skinny one, 1 pixel wide. I decided the dark brown lines were just too harsh, so I wanted to change them to a darker blue\/green. So I went to <strong>Enhance&gt;Adjust Color&gt;Replace Color<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-28482\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/31-1-500x295.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/31-1-500x295.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/31-1-768x453.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/31-1-875x517.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/31-1.jpg 1401w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another thing I&#8217;ve learned form doing it wrong a thousand times is to make sure the colour I WANT is the BACKGROUND colour. If I had a colour on my canvas that I wanted to use, I could then click on it with the eyedropper, but I don&#8217;t so I clicked on the background colour swatch where I have my darker blue-green. I opted to use the <strong>Wow Plastic Styles<\/strong> that were already in PSE when I bought it. There are 10 options in that set. Then I <strong>Erased<\/strong> some of the top white glitter layer to make it look like freshly-fallen snow on top of some older, crusty stuff. (Those of you who live in the snowbelt know what I mean.) Then I opted to play with the letters layers again.
