She&#8217;d like to know how to use repeating patterns to create her own paper &#8211; let&#8217;s take a look at that one now.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m pretty sure this has been covered in a previous tutorial but when I went to look for it so I could link it, I couldn&#8217;t find it. So to recap&#8230; I think. To create repeating patterns you can use brushes, stamps, elements, shapes &#8211; whatever your heart desires. For my example I&#8217;m using a tribal-looking stamp from <a href=\"https:\/\/store.gingerscraps.net\/Connie-Prince\/\"><strong>Connie Prince<\/strong><\/a>&#8216;s <strong>Roar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The first step is to <strong>Define<\/strong> the stamp as a <strong>Pattern<\/strong>. Click on <strong>Edit&gt;Define Pattern<\/strong>. That can be accomplished one of two ways: <strong>Image&gt;Resize&gt;Resize Image<\/strong> or <strong>CTRL\/CMD&gt;ALT&gt;I<\/strong>. Then decide how small to make it. Keep in mind your canvas size (3600&#215;3600 pixels or 12&#215;12 inches in my example). Once it&#8217;d been <strong>Resized<\/strong>, I went back and <strong>Defined Pattern<\/strong> with it, giving it a different name.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-29909\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/8-5-500x317.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"317\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/8-5-500x317.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/8-5-768x486.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/8-5-875x554.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/8-5.jpg 1115w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then I used <strong>Pattern Fill<\/strong> and got what I was expecting the first time.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-29910\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/9-5-500x292.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/9-5-500x292.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/9-5-768x448.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/9-5-875x510.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/9-5.jpg 1087w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are so many ways this can be jazzed up &#8211; <strong>Blend Modes<\/strong> have a lot of options, <strong>texture filters<\/strong> can make your paper look flocked or sponged, the colour can be changed in several ways. Give them all a whirl! For my example below, I changed the <strong>Blend Mode<\/strong> to <strong>Dissolve<\/strong> and made it look like I&#8217;d stencilled it on.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-29911\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/10-5-500x309.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"309\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/10-5-500x309.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/10-5-768x474.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/10-5-875x540.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/10-5.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One way to change the colour is to add a <strong>Fill Layer<\/strong> using the <strong>Layer<\/strong> menu. <strong>Layer&gt;New Fill Layer&gt;Solid Color<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-29912\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/11-5-500x358.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/11-5-500x358.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/11-5-768x550.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/11-5-809x580.jpg 809w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/11-5.jpg 1157w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By ticking that box, you&#8217;re telling PSE to clip the new colour to the layer below it.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-29913\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/12-5-500x192.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/12-5-500x192.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/12-5-768x295.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/12-5-875x336.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/12-5.jpg 1001w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the <strong>Color Picker<\/strong> opens up, you get to choose what colour you want to go with. I like this method because it&#8217;s much more reliable than using the <strong>Paint Bucket<\/strong> to fill the design &#8211; that usually ends up being a lot of work for a not-so-great result.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-29914\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/13-5-500x250.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/13-5-500x250.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/13-5-768x384.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/13-5-875x438.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/13-5.jpg 920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you want to make further adjustments to the pattern layer, <strong>Merge<\/strong> the pattern layer and colour fill layer together.
