I mentioned it last week, and that I&#8217;d only given it a cursory look-see. I accidentally created a layout using <strong>2019<\/strong>, even though I&#8217;d intended to stick with the familiar for a while longer. There was one thing that caught my eye that I wanted to explore further, and this is the outcome.<\/p>\n<p>One flaw I&#8217;ve always lamented (and did so in a couple of previous text-related tuts) is that <strong>Elements<\/strong> doesn&#8217;t allow <strong>kerning<\/strong>. What&#8217;s <strong>kerning<\/strong>? (I can see your quizzical looks!) <strong>Kerning<\/strong> is a printer&#8217;s term meaning the setting of two letters closer together than usual by decreasing the space between them. And with some fancy script fonts, <strong>kerning<\/strong> would be a really handy tool. Like <strong>Ballerina Script Regular<\/strong>&#8230; as I&#8217;m showing in my screenshot below. Those gaps!! Having to put each character on its own layer then nudging them together one at a time is such a time suck.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-31121\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/1-500x246.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/1-500x246.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/1-768x378.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/1-875x431.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/1.jpg 1444w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I was journaling on the layout I accidentally used <strong>2019<\/strong> for, I noticed the addition of a new <strong>tool option<\/strong> in the T<strong>ext tool<\/strong> called <strong>Tracking<\/strong>, and I suspected it had something to do with letter spacing. What I <em>DIDN&#8217;T<\/em> think about was whether I could select just the &#8220;<strong>s<\/strong>&#8221; and move it by itself. It&#8217;s called <strong>Peyton Script Regular<\/strong>. This is where <strong>isolating the &#8220;s&#8221;<\/strong> and adjusting only it might have been the answer. Would it work?<\/p>\n<p>I started with this &#8220;<strong>t<\/strong>&#8220;, which looked a bit funny, the way the stroke overlapped the &#8220;<strong>e<\/strong>&#8220;.
