The title <strong>Ellen<\/strong> particularly liked is the <strong>Road Trip<\/strong> one, but she wanted to use a different title in the same style. She messaged me that she tried to get this figured out on her own and eventually succeeded, but she knew there had to be a better way than stumbling around experimenting and undoing for hours. After all, that&#8217;s what I&#8217;m here for. \ud83d\ude42 After a little thought and (not very much) experimentation, I can tell you, this does the trick and it&#8217;s not a ton of work. So let&#8217;s get started!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-39425\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/MSG_DRT_Kit-gs-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"224\"><\/p>\n<p>For this little demo I&#8217;m using a pretty striped yellow alpha from the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/store.gingerscraps.net\/GingerBread_Ladies\/\"><strong>GingerBread Ladies<\/strong><\/a><\/span>&#8216; <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><a style=\"color: #ff00ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/store.gingerscraps.net\/GingerBread-Ladies-Collab-Sunny-Days.html\"><strong>Sunny Days<\/strong><\/a><\/span> collab. You can absolutely use a font if you choose, but each individual letter will need to be on its own layer. I opened up a 12&#215;12 document on my workspace.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-39426\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-4.jpg 1312w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-4-500x269.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-4-768x414.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-4-875x472.jpg 875w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first step is to create a elliptical shape to give the lower curve to the title. I pulled out a <strong>Custom Shape<\/strong> ellipse as shown. Whatever colour you have in your foreground is fine; I just had white already there. The ellipse should be slim and long, a sort of cigar-shape.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-39427\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2-4.jpg 1363w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2-4-500x269.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2-4-768x414.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2-4-875x471.jpg 875w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Remember, <strong>Custom Shapes<\/strong> are <strong>Smart Objects<\/strong>, meaning the pixels in it are locked and there&#8217;s not much you can do with them as is. My title only has 6 letters, but it&#8217;s still going to need some room.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-39430\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/5-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/5-4.jpg 1115w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/5-4-500x270.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/5-4-768x414.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/5-4-875x472.jpg 875w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I opened up a new blank layer on top of the larger ellipse by clicking on the <strong>sheet-of-paper icon<\/strong> at the top left of the layers panel, then I <strong>CTRL\/CMD&gt;clicked<\/strong> on the ellipse&#8217;s layer thumbnail (that little picture at the left side of the layer in the layers panel) to <strong>Select<\/strong> the edge of the ellipse. I just had <strong>Inside<\/strong> already selected and it&#8217;s not important for this step. I want the <strong>Stroke<\/strong> to be easily seen so I have black and <strong>10 pixels<\/strong> set.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-39433\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/8-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"324\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/8-4.jpg 1033w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/8-4-500x270.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/8-4-768x414.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/8-4-875x472.jpg 875w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now that I have a visible outline of the large ellipse on its own layer, the larger ellipse has served its purpose and can be <strong>Deleted<\/strong>. <strong>Right-click&gt;Delete Layer<\/strong> or simply <strong>CTRL\/CMD&gt;D<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-39434\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/9-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/9-4.jpg 985w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/9-4-500x270.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/9-4-768x414.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/9-4-875x472.jpg 875w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These two layers will be the guide for positioning my letters. They will sit on the edge of the smaller ellipse and stretch to touch the edge of the larger ellipse. To get that flare at the end of the title, the smaller solid ellipse needs a tilt.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-39435\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/10-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/10-4.jpg 873w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/10-4-500x269.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/10-4-768x413.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After I looked at the gap for a minute or so, I decided the flare needed some more adjustment so I tilted the larger ellipse a bit in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-39436\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/11-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/11-4.jpg 1064w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/11-4-500x269.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/11-4-768x414.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/11-4-875x471.jpg 875w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I have my guides in place, so now I can add my letters. Add a blank layer <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">UNDER<\/span> the first letter. You can start with it on top by clicking on the <strong>sheet-of-paper<\/strong>, and then move it down. Or you can hold down the <strong>CTRL\/CMD<\/strong> key and click on the <strong>sheet-of-paper<\/strong> and it&#8217;s just go there by itself. The nice part about using a shadow <strong>Style<\/strong> is that any changes I make to the layers now will be followed by the <strong>Style<\/strong>. That&#8217;s to say, the lighting angle, size and opacity will stay the same. (Did you notice I missed a couple of my layers when I was <strong>Shadowing<\/strong>?
