It may be a system font on your computer. It basically converts the font to pixels, which then allows us to modify it however we want to &#8211; but it&#8217;s no longer editable. Here&#8217;s a tip: If you think there&#8217;s any risk of needing to edit that text, make a <strong>Copy<\/strong> of it and make it <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">invisible<\/span>, like I&#8217;ve done here.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-53203\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/3-2-500x246.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/3-2-500x246.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/3-2-768x377.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/3-2-875x430.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/3-2.jpg 1471w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This next step is absolutely <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">essential<\/span><\/strong>. <strong>Click<\/strong> on the <strong>Lock Transparent Pixels<\/strong> button, show in the box, so that the <strong>Gradient<\/strong> is applied <strong>ONLY<\/strong> to the text.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-53204\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/4-2-365x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"438\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/4-2-365x500.jpg 365w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/4-2-423x580.jpg 423w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/4-2.jpg 581w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 438px) 100vw, 438px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I want to use colours from my photo for the <strong>Gradient<\/strong>, so using the <strong>Color Picker<\/strong> (<strong>Eyedropper<\/strong>), I first selected a spot in the sky for a bright blue. Then I held down the <strong>ALT\/OPT<\/strong> key and clicked the <strong>Eyedropper<\/strong> on the darker shadow area of the photo just above the &#8220;U&#8221;. That way, I didn&#8217;t have to switch the target swatches, <strong>Elements<\/strong> did it for me.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-53205\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/5-2-500x282.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/5-2-500x282.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/5-2-768x433.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/5-2-875x493.jpg 875w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/5-2.jpg 1341w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This technique&#8217;s path is much shorter than the one in our last <strong>Gradient<\/strong> tutorial. <strong>Click<\/strong> on the <strong>Gradient Tool<\/strong> (looks like a&#8230; dark-to-light gradient across a sheet of paper) in the <strong>Control Panel<\/strong>. To keep this really basic, we&#8217;ll use the default settings for the <strong>Tool<\/strong>. But there&#8217;s a LOT that can be done down there in the <strong>Tool Options<\/strong> panel to create a truly unique effect.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-53206\" src=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/6-2-500x475.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"569\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/6-2-500x475.jpg 500w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/6-2-768x729.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/6-2-611x580.jpg 611w, https:\/\/gingerscraps.net\/gsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/6-2.jpg 1021w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To duplicate the photo&#8217;s palette, with blue above and tan below, I <strong>clicked<\/strong> my cursor above the text and <strong>dragged<\/strong> a straight, vertical line to below the text. The <strong>Gradient<\/strong> will go in the direction you drag your cursor; I tried upper-left-to-lower-right too, just to see what it looked like. Hmm.
