Greatest Hits: A Whole New Meaning to Copy and Paste<\/strong><\/p>\n

Have you ever put your heart and soul into a layout, then spent forever coming up with the perfect journaling \u2013 only to hate the way the journaling looks, or worse\u2026 see a glaring typo? Have you ever wished PSE<\/strong> came with a spell-check? Or that you could copy-and-paste something from a website? Well, have I got the trick for you! Word<\/strong> and PSE<\/strong> work together! And even better\u2026 all your fonts are there in Word<\/strong> too! (Update: I’ve discovered that any note-keeping app on your computer will work for this! I’ve used Notepad<\/strong> a lot lately and was so glad I didn’t have to jump through all the Word<\/strong> hoops.)<\/p>\n

Your Word<\/strong> version may be different from mine; the interface might look different but this is pretty basic, and all the things I\u2019m going to show you will work with any version. I opened a new blank document in Word<\/strong>, chose a font and set my formatting so that my text would fit inside a border on a beautiful journaling blank I pulled from\u00a0Ooh La La Scraps<\/strong><\/a>\u2018\u00a0Shabby Chic<\/strong><\/a> collection. (Update: Don’t worry too much about formatting. You can adjust it within your PSE<\/strong> text box. Same for font selection.)<\/p>\n

I love using quotations for a variety of reasons. Like not having to think too hard! I typed out this one in a matter of a few seconds. I changed the size of the font for Mr Bergen<\/strong>\u2019s name.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I just spotted a typo on my screenshot below. RATS! Word<\/strong>\u2019s spell-check wouldn\u2019t have caught it either, but it DOES catch those transposed letters, \u201ce\u201ds that should be \u201ca\u201ds and that kind of thing. It also capitalizes the first word of each sentence for you if you forget.<\/p>\n

Then I opened up Elements<\/strong> on my desktop, dropped my journal blank onto a new document and set up the\u00a0Text tool<\/strong>\u00a0with the same font settings that I chose in Word<\/strong>. If I skipped this step now, Elements<\/strong> would default to the last settings I used.<\/p>\n

Back to Word<\/strong>\u2026 I selected the text then\u00a0right-clicked<\/strong>\u00a0to open up a dialogue box. It looks like this. I want to\u00a0Copy<\/strong>\u00a0the text. (WSNH<\/strong>\u00a0tip: the same keyboard shortcuts I\u2019ve shown you in previous tuts also work exactly the same in Word<\/strong>, so\u00a0CTRL\/CMD>C<\/strong>\u00a0will work to copy the text.)<\/p>\n

I flipped back to Elements<\/strong> and\u00a0Pasted<\/strong>\u00a0my text into the journaling space. That can be done by right-clicking<\/strong>\u00a0then choosing\u00a0Paste<\/strong>\u00a0from the dialogue box, or\u00a0CTRL\/CMD>V<\/strong>. Did you notice that Elements<\/strong> ignored the different text sizes?<\/p>\n

Now I have the ability to change it up to suit my layout. I changed the text colour first by pulling the gray from the border.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Then I changed the font size on Mr Bergen<\/strong>\u2019s name again. Now that I know the font size changes made in Word<\/strong> don\u2019t move over to Elements<\/strong>, I can skip that step in the future.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Even better, it\u2019s totally possible to\u00a0Copy<\/strong>\u00a0whole sections of text from a web site or other document on your computer and\u00a0Paste<\/strong>\u00a0it into Word<\/strong>. As you can see in the screenshot below, I\u2019ve selected a new quote from my favourite quotations site.<\/p>\n

Then I\u00a0Pasted<\/strong>\u00a0it into Word<\/strong> with a couple of clicks! Yeah. I wasted time resizing Ellen<\/strong>\u2019s name. (Did you catch the typo in this screenshot too?)<\/p>\n

Here you can see that I\u2019ve got Elements<\/strong> open and it\u2019s just waiting for me to\u00a0Copy-Paste<\/strong>\u00a0Ellen<\/strong>\u2019s words of wisdom over.<\/p>\n

Oh, right\u2026 I didn\u2019t go to Elements<\/strong> and set up the font. So this is the font, size and colour I used for the last layout I created.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

So I just\u00a0Undid<\/strong>\u00a0that step and started over. But this time I decided to use a\u00a0Text Box<\/strong>. This handy tool helps to constrain the text so it doesn\u2019t bleed out into areas where I don\u2019t want it. To create a\u00a0Text Box<\/strong>, with the\u00a0Type tool<\/strong>\u00a0click-and-drag from one corner diagonally to the opposite corner of the area you want to cover with text. This journal blank made it easy by having reference points in the border.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And then I pasted Ellen<\/strong>\u2019s quote into my text box. Notice that it\u2019s now centre-justified, rather than left-justified as it was in Word<\/strong>. I had \u201cCenter<\/strong>\u201d selected in the\u00a0Text tool<\/strong>\u00a0settings and Elements<\/strong> over-rode Word<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This time I didn\u2019t have too many changes I needed to make, other than shrinking Ellen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

But to show you how easy it is to change it to suit your purposes, I switched the angle from upright to right-italic and changed the text colour. I want to try this trick with texting on a path, but wanted to get you the basics now. Stay tuned!<\/p>\n
