The Dish

Ok this week I’m going to answer a few questions that really are close to home for me. First one is from Julie and she asks, “So..What are some ideas to keep the kids busy over the summer?” I think reading! I personally love to read and all of my children when they were home had a love for reading. It is FREE (take them to the library) It helps with so many aspects of their lives and is so enriching. In our home , we had a time each day where we just relaxed. This was after they were too big for naps but a time to just be still, no loud noises, and some peace and quiet… well it does the soul well. Not to mention helped keep me sane too! So I would encourage a reading time with possible rewards for books read or something.
Julie also asks… and I will try to keep this to a reasonably short answer. “OK, so I have another question…Carbs…Everyone says low carb diet it the way to loose weight..What the heck will I eat? I usually eat cereal or toast or oatmeal for breakfast=Carbs. Sandwhich for lunch=Carbs. Dinner, well usually some kind of meat, but we have rice or rolls or pasta=Carbs…So, what the heck will i eat? ”
I am actually on a low carb diet and have been since March 14. So far… toot toot…25 pounds. So I have learned a few tricks of the trade. As far as what to eat?? You can have lots of protien. So meats, cheese, eggs. So for breakfast, omelets, or eggs with bacon. Make you some fancy omelet with cheese, mushrooms and top with sliced avocados. Yummy! I personally drink a protein drink I get from Walmart or Sams. Its the EAS chocolate shake found in the pharmacy section and has one net carb. I am not a huge breakfast eater but for the most part, the drink is good for me and I have discovered some LOW CARB BREAD!!!!!!!!!!! Now I will try not to sound like an infomercial. But seriously, its the best bread I have ever eaten!!! Low Carb or not. Its high in fiber and so get this.. ONLY 1 NET CARB!!! I think I have died and gone to heaven. It is from Julians Bakery and you can order it on line or if you are lucky enough to have a place that sells it close to you .. bingo! Your set up. I have a son that brings me mine. I keep it frozen in my freezer. So I make cinnamon toast, the best grilled cheese sandwiches ever.. it is wonderful. They make one that has almonds and a few raisens in it that has 2 net carbs that I use for morning stuff. I also eat like a tablespoon or two of peanut butter before I go to bed. I try to stay around 20 carbs a day. But you can find where you are comfortable. Salads.. oh lots of salads. And the icing on the cake for my low carb lifestyle is I have taken up jogging. I will post about that next time… 🙂 But I will say I have gone from the “Couch” to jogging for 45 minutes in about 8 weeks. Have a blessed week! :)T

avacados in an omlette sounds delish! I’ll have to try it. I was on low carb diet when I was preggos with Bella (Gestational Diabetes) It was unplesent, but I learned a whole lot. I have upped my carbs since then, but still lower than before and I weigh the same as I did before I had my first child so it is quite helpful!
