Challenge Spotlight – Color Challenge

I’m Back!!! Did you know I was gone? Well I wasn’t really gone I just haven’t had a challenge spotlight since MAY yikes. However new year and as always fun new stuff going on at Gingerscraps Including new challenges! with all the new challenges and all the amazing new Layouts that result from them, how could I NOT come back and spotlight?

Okay so I know January is almost over so you may not have time to get in and try for yourself, but I’d still like to show you PixelsByJen’s fantastic color challnge for January.

Here’s her challenge:

GingerScraps Designers have an awesome Buffet out this month that has inspired this challenge. For this month I would like for us to scrap a page using ONLY black and white and grey….your photo needs to be black and white too. No additional colors, sorry.

In case you didn’t know the fantastic Buffet she is talking about is  Colors of my Life An amazing collection of kits that use black grayte with a splash of color, however for Jen’s challenge she wants just the black and white and what’s in between. Some have used paper and elements from this fabulous buffet, but others have used other kits or got clever and simply desaturated colored elements to make them grey. Brilliant! Here’s a few of my favs.

When everything is black and white it can be difficult to get your focus on the black and white picture. See how Marieh double frames and then clustered around her photo to draw attention to it? Brilliant!

by marieh

Check out those paper strips with the ribbon and ellies, even with very limited colors (or lack there of) jrmminga used contrast and texture to give plenty of dimention to this LO. Oh so elegant!

by jrmminga

This is lovely in it’s simplicity. And I’m not just saying that because anita used my kit. . . although it helps. 😉 Because of the high texture of the background there is no need to over do it. The plain black shapes works with the border and the few elements add an excellent elegant touch.

by anitaw

Do you see how that wave just pulls you in!  It’s placement is ideal, the tiny elements perfect, the word art. . well I can’t read it, but from her title I’m guessing it says being fabulous is hard work, but somebody’s got to do. Which is clearly fabulous in itself!

by goldy_69

I could go on forever! for for the sake of time why don’t you go check out the color challenge gallery yourself and find your own favorites, I guarantee, like me you will have a touch time picking!!

So if you’ve been afraid of black and white in the past I hope this helps you get over it. There’s so much you can say even without color! I love it! Thanks Jen for the wonderful challenge!

Challenge Spotlight – Daily Download

Welcome to another week and another Challenge Spotlight! Before we go to far let give a cheer for last weeks challenge spotlight winner jabi with her adorable Bath Time LO! Here’s what she won:

It’s a new month which means new challenges! But to give a little time for some example LOs to show up I thought perhaps I we could use last months Daily Download from HK Designs. Here’s a couple LOs to get the juices flowing:

Lovely Right? And so versatile! What have you made with your April Daily Download? Haven’t used it yet? Well here’s the perfect chance!

Oh! And don’t forget to keep coming back to pick up May’s Daily Download! This month it’s from ME! I worked super hard on it just for you! 🙂

Challenge Spotlight – Sugar Swap

Spring has finally  poked its head out from behind the rain/snow clouds here in Idaho! Yay! I hope you all enjoyed your Easter, Passover, spring holidays! We sure did!

So umm no one entered last weeks challenge spotlight. 🙁 so I guess that means no prize for me to give out. So I’ll just move on and hope we get better results this week, after all it is the last week of April!!

This weeks Challenge spotlight is the Sugar Swap hosted by prettyingreen! This is a scrap lift challenge! My favorite! Rachel (PinG) has supplied you with two beautiful LOs you can lift:

Wow Right? What lovely LOs!

Still unsure of what a scrap lift is? essentially  you copy the basic LO or idea, and then make it your own!

Here’s some fabulous examples:

by Serial Crafter

Love how on this second one she combined a bit of each LO to make it truly her own. Never let a scraplift challenge limit you, only inspire you to greatness. 🙂

Challenge Spotlight – Bakery Window

Wait what happened to last week? Umm well I sorta…well…forgot. Super sorry, especially to those awaiting to see if they won something! So lets not keep you waiting any longer! StarsWarsFans is the random winner! Here’s what you won:

Had to get those bunnies out for Easter you know. 😉

Okay now to this weeks spotlight challenge! Do you ever struggle with journaling. Sometimes, a picture is worth a thousand words, but other times it could certainly help to know HOW the 18 month old got marshmallows all over in his hair, especially if it was all Daddy’s fault. 😉 Well if you are an avid journalist or need some help getting the words out  Char has the challenge for you! Bakery Window Challenge for the second half of April is all about journaling!

Here’s some super LOs to see how journaling can fit right in and sometimes tell a story you didn’t even know you had to tell.

Challenge Spotlight – Cookie Cutter

Welcome back! We’ve had a kinda awful week, my baby girl go RSV so we’ve all been housebound. On the upside I’ve been working really hard on my part of the buffet coming out next month! So there’s your silver lining to my families illness. 🙂 Oh and we’re all on the mend now, a few more days of meds and I think we’ll all be back in tip top shape. In the meantime lets find out who wins my little goody this time? Thanks for actually giving my random generator something to do. 🙂 and the winner is….. Jamie B aka jtbusman(Jamie) with he LO Happy Birthday Daddy. Here’s what she won!

Onto this weeks challenge spotlight. Do you like templates? I do! They allow plenty of creativity with a starting point so I don’t have to stare at a blank canvas wondering where to start. The Cookie Cutter Challenge is all about templates and right now Char of Wyld Web Designs is hosting the Cookie Cutter Challenge. Go there to pick up your free template.

There’s already a bunch of great LOs already done here’s a few of my favs from the GS team.

Challenge Spotlight – Food Coloring

Well we’ve hit just about halfway through March. It’s time for that weather to be lamb-like right? Well outside my window it is pouring & both my kiddos have developed a cough. I feel like it’s been one illness after another for 3 months. Sheesh. But on the upside it is Monday and that means time for the Challenge Spotlight! But first we need a winner from last week! Our winner is . . . . Tina! aka Ambelleina for her remake from this to THIS! I love the remake and such a clever idea to use the ticket as the background! Here’s what you’ve won Tina!

So this week’s Challenge Spotlight is the Food Coloring challenge! Hosted this month by Cari Creates!

Never played the Food Coloring Challenge? It’s easy! The host posts a color palette and you have to use every color in the palette somewhere in your LO. To make it even easier they let you know a coordinating  kit you can use but you don’t HAVE to use that kit. Just those colors! 🙂

Ready to see this months palette?

Look familiar? It should! It coordinates with Ellie’s Daily Download!

Cari is even giving out a FREE kit from Cari Creates!! How sweet is that? Here’s some great LO’s already on display.

Challenge Spotlight – New Batch

March is here and I am sooooo ready for spring! My husband even put up our new trampoline that we got for Christmas. And then of course it snowed. *sigh*  Oh well  March comes in like a lion they say. . .

So crinkletoast was our only entry for last weeks super easy challenge. So she is our not so random winner with her My Little Sweetheart LO. Oh so sweet it is too. Beautiful clustering with that fabulous formerly free kit (That’s quality alliteration right there folks. 🙂 ) Here’s what she won, just in case you were wondering. 🙂

Super so onto this weeks Challenge Spotlight! It’s getting close to spring cleaning time! Why not go through some of your old layouts and clean them up too? This month prettyingreen is running the New Batch challenge this is a LO makeover challenge. You know when you first started digital scrapping, you had no ideas how to manipulate those shadows, or that you don’t really need the pictures THAT BIG on a 12×12. Maybe your clustering skills have improved a great deal, or perhaps the kits you have now are just SO much better than when you first started. Whatever the reason, find you an old LO and rework that baby.

Here’s some from prettyingreen:

After!

What an improvement! You can see that she’s gotten better with experience, how about you? Give the March Make Over a try.

Then post the link to your LO in the gallery and post it in a comment here. Next week I’ll randomly select one and that person will win a prize from ME! (Harmonystar).
