Challenge Spotlight – Color Challenge

Hello and another happy Tuesday to all the lovely blog readers! 🙂 Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend. I was SWAMPED all weekend long so I am exhausted and ready to just sit and scrap!

So, need a little push to scrap? An incentive? How about a discount coupon or gift certificate to the GingerScraps store?! Yeah, I think that’s a pretty good incentive to get to scrapping! This week I am spotlighting the color challenge hosted by JoyLynn of Blue Heart Scraps!

She has picked this bright and cheery palette for us to work with this month:

So pretty, I love it for spring and summer! To sweeten the pot, the ever-generous JoyLynn has even given you a paper pack freebie to get you started on the challenge; thanks, JoyLynn! 🙂

These colors are just great and the paper pack is such a sweet gesture to give everyone a start. She’s also suggested some kits in the store that coordinate! Need to see the colors in action? Here’s some inspiration to get you going!

Ahh, they’re all so pretty and colorful! Can you tell I like bright colors? Hehe. Even more, I like bragging on my fellow GS forum gals, these are fantastic, gals; you’re all so talented! 🙂

So you’ve got some pretty colors to play with and an awesome freebie to boot! If you participate in the challenge, leave a comment in the May color challenge thread with a link to your layout in the gallery so we can leave you some love! Make sure to track your points and remember, if you have any questions about this or any of our other challenges, or how the points work, head on over to the Cookie Jar and someone will help you ASAP!

Take care and I’ll see you all next week with the next challenge spotlight! 🙂

Challenge Spotlight – Template Challenge #1

Have you recovered from NSD yet?? Has your pocketbook? I didn’t go as crazy shopping as some of my fellow scrappers did (you know who you are!), but I did buy a bunch of kits I’ve had my eye on for a while and I’m ready to put them to good use! Here’s a way to get scrapping with all those treasures you picked up over the weekend and add another freebie to your stash: the first May template challenge hosted by Inspired Designs!

This month’s first template is really cool; take a look!

I really love the mix of square and circle photograph shapes with the mini clusters. This template will definitely make for some eye-catching LOs! Need some inspiration from the fabulous scrappers of the forum? Here you go!

Wonderful pages, ladies! You’ve all made the template your own and these LOs are definitely inspiring my creativity!

You’ve got all month to get this one in to count towards your challenge points, but it’s such a nifty template, I’d grab it now if I were you! (As a matter of fact, I should go finish my LO with this one right now!)

Don’t forget to grab a spot May Challenge Points Tracking thread so you can tally up all your points and start working your way towards a discount coupon or gift certificate! Any questions on this or any of the monthly challenges can  be posted to the Cookie Jar; don’t be shy, someone else might have the same question! 🙂

Alright ladies, I’m off to start going through my NSD spoils and get some challenges done!  Have a wonderful week and I’ll see you all back here next Tuesday!

Challenge Spotlight – Mini Kit Challenge

Good morning and happy May, everyone! Can you believe it’s May already? For those of us experiencing temperatures already in the 90s, it seems more like July: BLECH! Instead of roasting in the “spring” heat, let’s stay indoors, get some scrapping done and earn a discount coupon/gift certificate to the store, shall we? It’s time for the May challenges!

Let’s start the month off right–with a freebie! This month’s mini kit challenge is brought to you by Kathy Winters Designs and trust me when I say you’ll want to rush over to the forum and grab this mini ASAP! Take a look at what she made for us to work with this month:

B-E-A-UTIFUL! I love the colors and that little birdie is just so cute.  What will you make with this? A layout, a hybrid card? This is really fitting for all things spring and of course, perfect for those Mother’s Day pictures!

Here are some awesome layouts already completed by the talented ladies of the Gingerscraps forum!

Excellent creations, ladies! Those have definitely inspired me to jump on this challenge right away. I love how the same mini kit can take on so many different lives with the hands of a different artist, don’t you? Seriously indicative of the talent we have here at Gingerscraps! 🙂

Ok dear readers, now it’s YOUR turn! Swing by the forum and grab Kathy’s mini kit and get to scrapping! Make sure you grab your spot on the May Challenge Points Tracking thread and start tallying your progress towards a discount or gift certificate! (I’m trying to make May my third month in a row to hit 13–woohoo!) As always, any questions on this or any of the monthly challenges can be directed towards the Cookie Jar.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week, a good start to the month and a HAPPY NSD! (May the odds be ever in your favor!)

Challenge Spotlight – Template Challenges

Good morning, my lovely ladies! It’s Tuesday and you know what that means–another challenge spotlight!

This is your last full week to get your challenges in for a super nifty store discount coupon or gift certificate! And who doesn’t want that? (Seriously, who? Because I’ll volunteer to take yours if you don’t want it!) The points thread closes on the 1st of May, so get your challenges tallied up and entered!

Since this is the last spotlight of the month, I am going to give you a double dose of awesomeness with two easy challenges that each come with a freebie (isn’t free your favorite price?!): Sugar Kissed Designs’ first April template challenge and Craft-tastrophic’s second April template challenge!

You know how these work: we have one template for the first half of April and another for the second half, but you can still get both right now and knock two challenges out!

First, let’s take a look at Terra’s template for the first half of April!

Gorgeous, right? This one is perfect for showcasing multiple photos to tell a story! Let’s see how our fabulous forum gals did on this one!

Wow, ladies–you’ve really outdone yourselves with this challenge! All the layouts are so unique, it’s hard to believe they’re all from the same template!

Now let’s move onto Ivonne’s template for the second half of April!

I love me some paper stacking, so I of course jumped right on this one! Need some inspiration? Thought you’d never ask! 🙂

Remember, the month is almost up (can you believe it?), so make sure you swing by the forum and nab both of April’s templates while they’re hot! Get all your challenges in and tally them up in the April Challenge Points Tracking thread before May 1st to get credit. As always, direct any questions you have about our challenges to the Cookie Jar!

Hope you all have a great week; see you next month! 🙂

Challenge Spotlight – Font Challenge

Hey ladies! Hope everyone’s week is off to a great start and your month is happily chugging along!

Christina here with your weekly CHALLENGE SPOTLIGHT!

I’m a challenge addict! I mean, discovering new fonts, color palettes, hybrid inspiration and more? Chatting with the lovely ladies of the forum? PLUS you get a store discount coupon or gift certificate?! Need I say more? 😉

It’s already mid-April, but there’s definitely still plenty of time to get your challenge points going, so let’s jump right in! This week I’m spotlighting Laura Marie Scraps’ font challenge!

We are using this fabulous font, Simply Glamorous!

Laura Marie really picked a fantastic font for this month: sweet, girly and absolutely gorgeous for all your spring photos! Check out her layout here using her own Easter Fun kit:

Weekly Wrap Up

What does a busted phone and a sad Snickerdoodle have in common? Not much, actually. Just a little jealousy on my part that my husband got a new phone. He got an HTC Inspire. BIG upgrade from a basic texting dumphone (Samsung Impression). I had to resist adding the Gingerscraps app to it.

What? You didn’t know that Gingerscraps has an Android app? Well, they do!! They have one for the iPhone (or other such devices) and for Windows 7 phones!

Sweet, right? Reminds me that I need to get onto someone about updating this ad! Windows 7 is available!

Other news? What? Really? You still want to hear me?

Oh geeze! I’m turning into Shannon! *hides*

On the Facebook page, Jacque wonders what everyone did on Monday. Personally, I was in bed. Sinuses. Blech! Anyone else abhor them?

On the forum, Jen, of Jen Yurko Designs, asked which app to use: Forum Runner or Tapatalk for her Droid. As a future owner of an Android (I’m getting the same one as my husband Open-mouthed smile). Looks like BOTH are getting good reviews. For Windows users: I suggest Board Express.

Speaking of Android apps, I posted, looking for the BEST apps for Android. I’m an app girl. I like to make everything all me and personal. I can do that with apps!!

Now, it’s March. Yeah, it’s March already. Where did February go?

How did you do with the challenges? Yeah, I didn’t do too well. Goal for March for me personally is to do at least four of them!!

One I’m definitely trying is the Technique Challenge. Selective coloring, basically, is what you’re learning. Plus, there’s an ADORABLE kitty in the thread!! I swear I heard it purr at me!

Another one I’m going to attempt to do is the FONT CHALLENGE!!

Considering a certain popular show on ABC, this font is PERFECT for that. Anything related to reading or something! Hey, you could use the new BUFFET on it!! The Reading Room!

I can’t wait to see what you do!!

March’s book is The Hunger Games!! Join us for discussions starting March 07, and an unscheduled at the moment chat at the end of the month!

Before I forget!!

You still have a day or so!! Go check it out!!

Well, I think that’s about it!! If you have anything you think should be brought forth for a weekly round-up on Gingerscraps, give me a holler on Gingerscraps (I’m Sarah on there)! I’ll see what I can do!!

Challenge Spotlight – Color Challenge

I’m Back!!! Did you know I was gone? Well I wasn’t really gone I just haven’t had a challenge spotlight since MAY yikes. However new year and as always fun new stuff going on at Gingerscraps Including new challenges! with all the new challenges and all the amazing new Layouts that result from them, how could I NOT come back and spotlight?

Okay so I know January is almost over so you may not have time to get in and try for yourself, but I’d still like to show you PixelsByJen’s fantastic color challnge for January.

Here’s her challenge:

GingerScraps Designers have an awesome Buffet out this month that has inspired this challenge. For this month I would like for us to scrap a page using ONLY black and white and grey….your photo needs to be black and white too. No additional colors, sorry.

In case you didn’t know the fantastic Buffet she is talking about is  Colors of my Life An amazing collection of kits that use black grayte with a splash of color, however for Jen’s challenge she wants just the black and white and what’s in between. Some have used paper and elements from this fabulous buffet, but others have used other kits or got clever and simply desaturated colored elements to make them grey. Brilliant! Here’s a few of my favs.

When everything is black and white it can be difficult to get your focus on the black and white picture. See how Marieh double frames and then clustered around her photo to draw attention to it? Brilliant!

by marieh

Check out those paper strips with the ribbon and ellies, even with very limited colors (or lack there of) jrmminga used contrast and texture to give plenty of dimention to this LO. Oh so elegant!

by jrmminga

This is lovely in it’s simplicity. And I’m not just saying that because anita used my kit. . . although it helps. 😉 Because of the high texture of the background there is no need to over do it. The plain black shapes works with the border and the few elements add an excellent elegant touch.

by anitaw

Do you see how that wave just pulls you in!  It’s placement is ideal, the tiny elements perfect, the word art. . well I can’t read it, but from her title I’m guessing it says being fabulous is hard work, but somebody’s got to do. Which is clearly fabulous in itself!

by goldy_69

I could go on forever! for for the sake of time why don’t you go check out the color challenge gallery yourself and find your own favorites, I guarantee, like me you will have a touch time picking!!

So if you’ve been afraid of black and white in the past I hope this helps you get over it. There’s so much you can say even without color! I love it! Thanks Jen for the wonderful challenge!

Spring has finally  poked its head out from behind the rain/snow clouds here in Idaho! Yay! I hope you all enjoyed your Easter, Passover, spring holidays! We sure did!

So umm no one entered last weeks challenge spotlight. 🙁 so I guess that means no prize for me to give out. So I’ll just move on and hope we get better results this week, after all it is the last week of April!!

This weeks Challenge spotlight is the Sugar Swap hosted by prettyingreen! This is a scrap lift challenge! My favorite! Rachel (PinG) has supplied you with two beautiful LOs you can lift:

Wow Right? What lovely LOs!

Still unsure of what a scrap lift is? essentially  you copy the basic LO or idea, and then make it your own!

Here’s some fabulous examples:

Love how on this second one she combined a bit of each LO to make it truly her own. Never let a scraplift challenge limit you, only inspire you to greatness. 🙂

Challenge Spotlight – Bakery Window

Wait what happened to last week? Umm well I sorta…well…forgot. You see I’m a pretty structured person and when my schedule gets interrupted say for something like my baby girls 18 mo. checkup that is at my usual blogging time, then well I just forget what it was I was doing. Super sorry, especially to those awaiting to see if they won something! So lets not keep you waiting any longer! StarsWarsFans is the random winner! Here’s what you won:

Had to get those bunnies out for Easter you know. 😉

Okay now to this weeks spotlight challenge! Do you ever struggle with journaling. Sometimes, a picture is worth a thousand words, but other times it could certainly help to know HOW the 18 month old got marshmallows all over in his hair, especially if it was all Daddy’s fault. 😉 Well if you are an avid journalist or need some help getting the words out  Char has the challenge for you! Bakery Window Challenge for the second half of April is all about journaling!

Here’s some super LOs to see how journaling can fit right in and sometimes tell a story you didn’t even know you had to tell.
