Whatsapp, Instagram, and Uber Eats. LOL

If you could have someone follow you around all the time, like a personal assistant, what would you have them do?

Doing my house chores? LOL

Would you rather travel back in time to meet your ancestors or to the future to meet your descendants?

Wow, that’s tough. I think to the future to meet my descendants? It’s kinda scary to think, though…

What commercial jingle gets stuck in your head all the time.

None of them, really.

If you could turn the ocean into a liquid other than water, which one would you pick?

COFFEE……!!!!

Thanks Lisa!! Make sure to check out her GS Store and her FB Fan Page.

November Feature Designer – Part 2

Welcome back to the second part of November’s Feature Designer post. Today we’re talking with the wonderful Jo from JoCee Designs. Jo is one of the fabulous designers at Gingerscraps that lives outside of the US. Jo is in Australia and getting ready for summer.

Let’s just jump into it and see how she answered my questions.

Mainly Photoshop with some Illustrator.

Describe your design workplace.

We have a big room at the back of the house that is my office/cat playroom/tv room. I have my computer, printer and our son’s computer up against one wall and a view to the pool behind us.

If you could have someone follow you around all the time, like a personal assistant, what would you have them do?

Give me massages in my neck. My stress lives there and it can be most painful at times.

Would you rather travel back in time to meet your ancestors or to the future to meet your descendants?

oooh, hard one… ummm.. both but if I really had to choose… future to hopefully see that we did good when raising our kids.

What commercial jingle gets stuck in your head all the time.

When we travel to the USA, we love the crazy adverts on the tv. When we were in LA in 2014 there was an ad that had the catch line… ‘cos pee happens’… we still use it to this day, lol!!

November Feature Designer(s) – Part 1

November Feature Designer(s) – Part 1

Happy November to all my scrapping friends. Can you believe it’s this close to the end of the year and to the holiday season?

I’m so excited to bring you TWO Feature Designer interviews for November. One now and another tomorrow. I wanted to give each of these fabulous ladies their own spotlight.

Miss Fish Templates and JoCee Designs have teamed up this month to be our Feature Designers. Today I’ll talk to Juli of Miss Fish Templates. Let’s see her answers to my questions.

How long have you been designing?

2 years

What made you decide to design?

I had been scrapping for 14 years. I wanted a way to make some extra money so I could afford to get my hair professionally colored. My digi friends suggested trying to make templates to make some extra money. I have smart friends!!!

What do you use to create your designs (program, additional tools, etc.)?

I use Photoshop CC. I doodle a lot while at meetings at my real life job.

Describe your design workplace.

I work in our family room so I can be with my family and interact with them while I work. I have a gaming lap top hooked up to a double wide monitor that sits in our shelves next to the fireplace. Some times I take it on the road and work at Starbucks or in hotels while we are on vacation.

What motivates and inspires you as a designer?

I design templates based on what my CT and my customers want. I try to make products that people can use to get their memories scrapped faster, but at the same time offers plenty of room to be creative. I am inspired by other scrappers, trends in fashion and decorating and other designers.

What is your favorite kit currently in your GS store?

Blended Stories 1

Now for some fun getting to know you questions:

What was your first job?

My first ever job was working in a nursing home at the front desk checking in guests and welcoming people.

Have you ever met anyone famous?

Do Disney characters count? I’ve met lots of those when my girls were younger. We had Disney passes.

What are you reading right now?

I don’t have time to read to be honest. I use all my non-work time to keep up my house and play games on my phone.

What is your favorite quote?

I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.

What is something you want to do in the next year that you’ve never done before?

Learn Adobe Illustrator. I’d like to learn how to make kits.

You have your own latenight talk show, who do you invite as your first guest?

Michelle Obama

If you had to delete all but 3 apps from your smartphone, which ones would you keep?

Text messages (I have 2 teen age girls and couldn’t live without it), Starbucks, Target.

If you could have someone follow you around all the time, like a personal assistant, what would you have them do?

Clean my house/car and cook meals for my family

Would you rather travel back in time to meet your ancestors or to the future to meet your descendants?

Back in time to spend more time with my grandparents and my step-dad. Miss them so much!!

What commercial jingle gets stuck in your head all the time.

Target – Stuck in the Middle campaign.

If you could turn the ocean into a liquid other than water, which one would you pick?

Wine for sure. Thankfully I live near the beach so I could have a few glasses and watch the sun set.

Thanks Juli – those were awesome answers. I’m not ashamed to admit I have a TON of her templates. I absolutely love them. I actually just used the template above last week. I love the blended look.

Make sure to check out her store at Gingerscraps, her Facebook fan page and her Facebook group – The Fish Bowl. You just never know when she’s going to run a cool contest to give away some of her templates. Her store is also on sale for 40% off through November 18th.

APRIL’S DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT

LAURIE’S SCRAPS & DESIGNS

Hey all you GingerScrappers! It’s April and our Designer Spotlight is on Laurie of Laurie’s Scraps & Designs. Laurie was in the hot seat in August 2017 and I’ve already interviewed her so I’m not going to put her through all that again. If you’d like to get to know her a bit better, you can find our interview right here.

Laurie has a beautiful Daily Download for us this month. It’s called I Love the 80s and you’re going to love it!

Make sure you check out Laurie’s shop and get in on the fun at the Designer Spotlight Challenge.

January’s Designer Spotlight: Miss Mis Designs!

Whew… where did January go?? Between me being crazy busy and some gremlin activity with my laptop, Misty almost didn’t get her moment in the Spotlight, but there’s still a tiny bit of month left so let’s sit down with her and get to know her a little better.

J: How long have you been designing?

M: Ten years this month! [Congratulations!!]

J: What’s your design process?

M: I’m a full-time student, mom and manager, so my design process lately is sit down and make a day of it. Plan papers, elements and knock it out.

J: What do you use to create your designs?

M: I use PSCC some, but my  favorite is PSE 7. SEVEN, lol!

J: Describe your design workspace.

M: Right now my mom is living with us and taking my office space, so I’m currently at a small desk in the middle of the dining room. At least I have snacks when I design!

J: What motivates and inspires you as a designer?

M: It’s my creative outlet. I have a very mundane real life job; this allows me to be artsy and creative.

J: What kit currently available in your GingerScraps store is your favourite? Why?

M: My favorite is “My Tribe”. I feel like most people can relate to having that ‘tribe’ of people that help them in everyday life. Kids, work, LIFE!

[psst…. it’s on SALE!!]

J: Do you craft outside the digital world?

M: I crochet blankets. I can crochet and relax in front of the tv for maybe ten minutes a day. Everyone gets baby blankets for their new littles.

J: What is the last book you read?

M: I am currently reading Present Over Perfect. It’s sooo insightful.

J: Tea or coffee?

M: Coffee through the day but a hot cup of tea before bed.

J: Do you have a guilty pleasure?

M: I like a good casino. Eek. I do like to go and splurge $40 or so and sometimes even win!

J: If time travel were possible, where would you go and why?

M: I would have to go to the future. I’m not much of a history person. There isn’t a specific time that intrigues me.

J:  What’s your favourite thing about GingerScraps?

M: The team and the community! There isn’t ever any bickering, or drama. We truly do have a fantastic group of people.

J:  If you could have any super power, what would it be?

M: I would love to be able to be in more than one place at a time. Multiplicity. I am a mom, a full time Sales Manager, and full time student. I need more of me to get it all done. I’d have one more that is just sleeping all the time.

Thanks for chatting with me, Misty!

August Designer Spotlight

LAURIE’S SCRAPS AND DESIGNS

Greetings GingerScrappers! This month’s Featured Designer is Laurie of Laurie’s Scraps and Design. She’s got a HUGE sale running until the 15th and a fabulous Daily Download for y’all, so make sure you check it out.

Let’s get to know Laurie a little better. She granted me an interview today!

1… How long have you been designing?

Since 2008 but I took a 4 year break in between.

2… What is your design process?

I start with solid papers, then pattern, then frames, foliage, flowers, other non themed elements, then themed elements. But I mix it up depending on what theme the collection is.

3… What do you use to create your designs? (software, hardware, etc)

PS CC

4… Describe your design workspace.

I got a nice new drawing 2 in 1 laptop a little while ago. (I LOVE IT!) I sit at my kitchen table so I can watch and help the kids when they need me.

5… What motivates and inspires you as a designer?

My kids, other designers, and life in general

6… What kit currently available in your GingerScraps store is your favourite? Why?

I have been changing my design style lately so all of my recent ones have been my favorite… but if I had to choose one, I think it would be “Walk the Plank“.

7… Do you craft outside the digital world?

I love to when I have time, but it has been a long time since I have time for it.

8… What is the last book you read?

Uhhhhhh…. I can’t remember! Reading has never been my thing. I like to create instead.

Sweets…. mainly cupcakes and chocolate. I LOVE CUPCAKES!

11… If time travel were possible, where would you go and why?

OOOHH, this is a hard one. I am married to a history teacher, so all time periods are interesting to me now. But I would have to say the 1920’s…. the culture and historical events are so interesting to me.

12… What’s your favourite thing about GingerScraps?

I love all the great customers who are involved and participate in the challenges and post layouts using my designs. I live to see how my designs are used!

13… If you could have any super power, what would it be?

Invisibility… so I can hide from screaming kids when I need to!

Thanks Laurie!

June Designer Spotlight: Tinci Designs

Omigosh, it just occurred to me that I haven’t posted the Designer Spotlight get-to-know-you post for this month and it’s almost over! Better late than never, am I right? So let’s get to know the lovely Krisztina, the creative mind behind Tinci Designs. I asked her the following questions…

J: How long have you been designing?

K: I made my first template pack during the spring of 2011. There was a short period, while I was making kits too, but then I realised, that my true passion is the creation of templates.

J: What is your design process?

K: I draw inspiration from different galleries and from Pinterest. Sometimes I spend days thinking about what kind of template to make. When I got a bright idea, I finish my work quickly. I have a fantastic team, they make amazing inspirational pages.

J: What motivates and inspires you as a designer?

K: I really enjoy making digital scrapbook pages. Since a few years I’ve been making photo albums from pictures of our family, vacations and important events. I often favor myself with making such templates, that will fit into my next photo album. Then I look forward to how others use my templates with their personal style.

J: What do you use to create your designs? (software, add-ons etc)

K: I am working with Photoshop CS6.

J: Describe your design workspace.

K: I have a PC desk, just a simple place in our dining room.

J: Do you craft outside of the digital world?

K: Not

J: What kit currently available in your GingerScraps store is your favourite, and why?

K: My favorite product at this moment is Favorite Minutes 1. template pack. I like this pack, because this well illustrates my style.

J: What’s your favourite thing about GingerScraps?

K: Since I started designing, I’ve sold my products in several stores. More than one year ago I came accross Gingerscraps store, and I found a home here. I really like working here as a designer and as a member of the store own creative team. Everybody is very kind, the place has a homely atmosphere. As soon as anyone needs help, someone will come and help. It is the best place!

J: Tea or coffee?

K: Tea

J: What was the last book you read?

K: I’m reading one of the newest novel of a Hungarian author, Búzavirág from Janka Fábián. It is a fictional story about the life of a Hungarian actress starting from the 1900s, who made it to Hollywood and became a famous actress.

J: Do you have a guilty pleasure?

K: My addiction is Nutella and salted peanut. Maybe I was a squirell in my previous life?

J: If time travel were possible, where would you go and why?

K: If I had a time machine, I would travel to a paralel universe, where fairies, kobolds, mages and other magical creatures live. Or to a future where there is peace, and robots makes our life a lot easier. I’m always a dreamer.

J: If you could have any super power, what would it be?

K: If I could have a super power, I’d choose to be able to get to anywhere in an instant. I want to visit a lot of places in the world.

Thank you for giving us a peek into your life, Krisztina!

April Feature Designer – Dear Friends Designs

I’m back with the second part of our Feature Designer post. This one with one-half of Dear Friends Designs, Trina. She finally slowed down enough to “chat” with me.

How did you get started in digital scrapbooking?

Back in early 2007 (yikes, can’t believe that was 10 years ago!) I was pregnant with my second child and making a wedding slideshow for my SIL of her old photos and her hubby to be’s old photos. Was having fun, then started searching for ways to make it fancier and stumbled upon digital scrapbooking! I used to sell Creative Memories, and was only about 4 pages in PAPER scrapbook for my oldest. I was instantly hooked, shortly after sold my paper supplies and never looked back!

What made you decide to design?

It has always intrigued me, I’ve dabbled with different types of designing, and never seemed to be able to leave a template alone and just use it. Got to the point where Colleen & I were both just making our own templates, so we hemmed and hawed and eventually bit the bullet and asked Ginger what she thought – she was so encouraging and excited for us, now its been 2 years! I so wish we started sooner!!

What do you use to create your designs (program, additional tools, etc.)?

I use Adobe Creative Cloud. I have been addicted to Photoshop since high school when I learned to use it for yearbook! I create EVERYTHING in Photoshop, fliers, applications, etc., I mean everything!

Describe your design workplace.

Wherever my laptop happens to be!! When we travel in the car, I make hubby drive so I can design and/or scrap. Sometimes in the chair or on the couch. When my back was bad before surgery I’d be laying on the living room floor! Now most often its on a desk right in my living room.

What is your favorite thing about designing?

That its work, that doesn’t feel like work, and I still get to scrapbook! Getting to know other awesome designers, and working with some pretty amazing CT! Also seeing what others create using our templates is motivation to do more! I love hearing back from our customers about how much they love our templates and how they’re perfect for them and easy to use!!

What is your favorite kit currently in your GS store and why?

Oooh – always tough to choose just one…hmmm….one of my favorites is still our Nifty 50 series! They were so fun to create (and so much work too) but I love all the LOs we get from them. As far as a regular template pack goes – a more recent one would be “My Happy Place” because the name makes me smile, and I love all the banners and different sized photo places!

What was your first job?

Um, good question! Babysitting if that counts, then I worked at a Pet Store, and an Espresso & Eatery, and a cashier at a grocery store, and then in the meat dept of the same grocery store – but I’m not entirely sure on the order of those! heehee!

How many languages do you speak? What are they?

I speak English, and “toddler-ese” (haha, but I’m usually pretty good at deciphering young kid talk!) I know a tiny bit of Spanish, and a tiny bit of sign-language. Wish I could say more!!

What’s your favorite holiday?

All of them! Any time that I can spend time with my family!

What is your favorite family holiday tradition?

Not sure we have too many traditions, we’re almost always in different locations for each holiday, so hard to make traditions…

What three things do you think of most each day?

My 4 kids and everything they need for the day.
My never ending to-do list
What my “photo of the day” is!

If you had a warning label, what would yours say?

Warning: Hates Mornings!

Is there anything you wished would came back into fashion?

Nothing I can think of off the top of my head – not sure I really follow any fashion things anyway – I wouldn’t say I’m trendy like that – I just like to be comfortable! hahaha!

Do you collect anything?

Not really, I have a little collection of rocks from my younger days, oh but I do collect photos! haha! Of my kids and of bugs and wildlife (those are my 3 fave things to photograph!)

If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?

Teleporting, flying & wiggling my nose to get the house to clean itself!

Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?

My family? Losing them would be horrible!

How would your friends describe you?

Depends on who you ask! IDK – ask Colleen?!

If you were a fruit or vegetable, which one would you be?

I’d like to think I’m sweet like fruit, but also pretty hardy like a vegetable. Ugh – IDK! Tough choice!

What would you prefer as a second home: Mountain cabin, beach house, or big city condo?

Mountain Cabin – with a lake haha!

What would you do on your dream date?

Funny – we were just talking about this – and I couldn’t come up with one! Depends on the day, week, month, season! I like to dress up and go out “fancy” but also like to take it easy, or rough it and camp, or go hiking, biking or geocaching, so really depends on the time of the year and my mood! haha!

Thanks Trina!!

Make sure to check out Dear Friends Designs GS Store, FB Page, and FB Group!

They have a sale running in their store until the 30th.

And make sure you are grabbing the daily download from this blog to get the special kit they have put together with Neverland Scraps.

April Feature Designer – Neverland Scraps

Wow. We’re already a week into April. I should have gotten this posted for you last weekend. I hope everyone is enjoying the new month and the new challenges.

This month our featured designers are Neverland Scraps and Dear Friends Designs. Let’s talk to Wendy of Neverland Scraps and find out a few things about her.

How did you get started in digital scrapbooking?

After I had my middle child, I started seeing people sharing their digital layouts on the crafting board. I asked a lot of questions, saved a lot of tutorials and scrapped my first layout using Word. It was frustrating and shortly after I attempted my first layout, I discovered I had Paint Shop Pro on my computer, which made things a lot easier.

What made you decide to design?

I figured if someone else could create kits, why couldn’t I? I mean I did teach myself to scrap, why not teach myself to design using the same concept. I worked through tutorials, creating myself a kit. When I shared it with my fellow moms, they kept encouraging me. About a month later, I was approached to sell my products in a store and thus began my designing journey.

What do you use to create your designs (program, additional tools, etc.)?

Mostly Photoshop CS5. I was using a tablet, but that didn’t make our recent move. I’m still waiting a reimbursement, which until then won’t get replaced. Sometimes I’ll scan items in and extract them, however my printer/scanner also didn’t make the move!

Describe your design workplace.

I have an office, however it’s also the spare bedroom. When family is visiting in town, I try not to use my office to give them space. I have a desk that my father bought for me several years ago. It’s large enough to hold two monitors and my computer tower. I love my set-up. I have a calendar just for digiscrapping/designing with due dates and what not, as well as a single notebook with ideas and other things scribbled inside.

What is your favorite thing about designing?

Seeing people using the product in their own projects. Sometimes how they transform a template amazes me. When I see my kits used, I think of all the love that went in to designing that kit and now it’s shining through on their layout. Definitely the joy comes from the outcome of the product being used!

What is your favorite kit currently in your GS store and why?

You Are My Sunshine—many know a few years ago I took an extended maternity leave. That said child is also our 9-year miracle child. Since he’s been born, I’ve been singing “You Are My Sunshine” to him every time I rock him. Those days are getting fewer and fewer, since he is now 4-years old, and I cherish that song and the kit because it was created in love for the memory of singing that song, and others, to my son while putting him to sleep at night.

What was your first job?

I was a cashier at a store called Ames, which has been out of business for many, many years!

How many languages do you speak? What are they?

One – English

What’s your favorite holiday?

Valentine’s Day – it’s the day my husband and I were married!

What is your favorite family holiday tradition?

We don’t really have any holiday traditions. We used to go to his family for Christmas one year and then my family the next year. However, with this current duty-station, we are too far for visits to either of our families.

What three things do you think of most each day?

1. God, how I’m thankful He allowed me another day on this earth.
2. Family, how I’m thankful they are mine to cherish and to love.
3. Home, how I’m grateful for the many opportunities that God has given our family.

If you had a warning label, what would yours say?

Warning – Shy, please leave to self.

Is there anything you wished would came back into fashion?

No, I’m not in to fashion. I am still wearing the same clothes from when my oldest was a baby!

Do you collect anything?

My children collect Precious Moments, but they say it’s my collection! I did buy, as souvenirs, the “You are Here” Starbucks cups from all the parks at Disney, as well as from our time in DC, since my son was born there. But other than that, we move too much to collect needless treasures.

If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?

Multiplicity – There are times I need to be in two places at once and it’s hard as a mom to decide what has more value over the other. If there were more of me, I could do more things in a day, without feeling like I had let someone/something down.

Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?

The Bible –The verses are such an encouragement that if I did not have a copy, I probably become a different person, one that would disappoint my Lord and Savior.

How would your friends describe you?

I’m not quite sure and I don’t know if I would want to know!

If you were a fruit or vegetable, which one would you be?

Grape – because they can be both sour and sweet. While I try to be sweet in all that I do and say, sometimes my words/wisdom comes across as sour note to the listener, especially if we don’t see eye to eye. I’m not mean, but I also will stand my ground.

What would you prefer as a second home: Mountain cabin, beach house, or big city condo?

I already live in the mountains and I’m not too fond of the weather that the mountains bring every day. I don’t care for the beach or sand and my children are quite loud to share a condo with my neighboring walls! With that logic, leaves me the big city—if I could have that, can I please go back to Washington, DC?

What would you do on your dream date?

Go out somewhere with money and time not being an issue and I knew the children were being taken care of so I wouldn’t have to worry about them. I’d be game for whatever anyone wanted to share with me, as long as I didn’t have to worry about time, money or the children!

Thanks Wendy!!

Make sure to check out her GS Store, and her FB Fan Group. Also she has a great coupon for you to use this month:

She has also teamed with Dear Friends Designs for this month’s Daily Download.

March Feature Designer – Mags Graphics

Welcome to March. This month our Feature Designer is Maggie from Mags Graphics. She was wonderful about answering my questions so that all of you could get to know her a little better.

How did you get started in digital scrapbooking?

I’ve been scrapbooking in some form or another since I was 15 years old. My very first albums were made with construction paper albums, Elmer’s Glue, and quotes from magazines. When I went to my first Creative Memories party, I bought just about everything, ripped apart my old albums, and re-made them in acid-free, lignon-free, Creative Memories products!

In 2001, I became a stay-at-home-Mom. I started learning Paint Shop Pro to make animated graphics and stumbled upon the now-defunct Digital Scrapbooking Place and realized that I could merge my computer skills with scrapbooking!

What made you decide to design?

Once I realized that I could use Paint Shop Pro to make layouts, I wanted to figure out how to make the kits that I needed for my own layouts. Those early “kits” were, honestly, TERRIBLE, but I kept at it, joining small stores to get better and better. I’ve been designing as my “job” since 2009.

What do you use to create your designs (program, additional tools, etc.)?

I use Paint Shop Pro and CS2 to design. I use MyMemories Suite 8 for my own personal layouts – because it’s fast.

Describe your design workplace.

Why don’t I show you… I have my office in our basement – filled with my favorite NERD TOYS!

What is your favorite thing about designing?
