Challenge Spotlight – Say Click…Take a Pic

Welcome welcome! I hope you all had a great weekend. Does anyone else feel summer slipping through their fingers? Yikes! Well lets get on with the random winner of last weeks challenge spotlight. *drum roll* Trina! With her “Park”  LO. Great use of that font! Here’s your prize!

On with this weeks Challenge Spotlight. Ig you havn’t been on the Gingerscraps forum lately, GO! We have lots of fun new challenges this month!

Today I’d like to spotlight Julies Say Click…Take a Pic challenge. Anyone else have a kiddo that watches Diego? Yeah I can’t even think of this challenge without getting that little jingle in my head. 🙂  Okay so the purpose of this challenge is to hone in on our picture taking skills, after all it is the pictures that our scrapblooking revolves around, so we want them to be good! Julie is a photographer and knows how to get that perfect shot. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited for these challenges to learn more about taking photos.

This month the technique is Angles. Here’s some examples she gave.

Neat looking huh? I decided to try it out myself and came up with this:

I was a bit proud of myself. Turned out okay huh?

Want to try it out for yourself. All you need is your camera! Got take some cool angled pictures then you can either put them in a layout or post them as is for Say Click…Take a Pic Then come back here and post the link to your LO or picture in the gallery and post it in a comment here. Next week I’ll randomly select one and that person will win a prize from ME! (Harmonystar). CT & those who have already done the challenge are elligable. As an added bonus, I will be giving a bonus brownie point to all those that leave a comment! Let me see those comments!

Behind the Scrapbook

I had to share this wonderful LO by Scrappy Cocoa… If you haven’t heard we have a new Gingerbread baby in the house!

Steph and Tim had a baby girl last week and named her Delilah Jae!! What a cutie! Here’s a LO Steph did of the big day! I love the title… this was her first peek at her new baby girl… the picture says it all!!

Congrats Ulrich family!!

It’s August my favorite month of the year and my busiest!! I’m trying to get through my summer bucket list and not having much success as I keep adding activities to it! This may have to be a summer/fall bucket list! It’s a hard list to get through when my main funsticker (a person who sticks to your fun) is on vacation. My Julie has been in Haida Gwaii for the past week with my ma and I’ve been missing her so…. here she right after catching her first fish EVER!!! Thank goodness she can keep in touch texting photos. I hate to miss any of her firsts!

Have you seen the Telus commercial with the house hippos?? I have always said if there was such a thing as a house hippo I’d have one for sure!! So what does hubby bring home for me….

What a sweet heart…. I (heart) him!

We’ve also had quite a bit of this….

Does Mother Nature not know it’s no longer spring!! I love the rain but I can’t keep up with my yard:( So I should go I have grass to mow, dirt to dig and trees to plant… none of this is on my summer bucket list…. I’m just thinking of it as staying active… every little step is a calorie burned and a job well done:)

Have a great day

~Mandy

Let’s Get Crafty: Gone Hybrid!

Who is ready to get Crafty! It’s Thursday! Yea!

So, you all see all these awesome Hybrid project in the galleries. You are thinking, man I really want to try that. But…it’s got to be so expensive. i don’t have the money to buy all those fancy supplies. Well, I am the queen of cheap! LOL! I love making Hybrid projects…but I don’t have a bottomless wallet! So, lets chat! How can you get started in Hybrid with out breaking the bank.

Some basic supplies…

*Scissors, small sharp ones work best, but I have even used my kids scissors when mine go missing…which happens a lot! lol

*Adhesive of some sort, there are 100’s of different adhesives out there, but really to get started all you need is a trusty old glue stick. My fave is the Pioneer Extra Strong Glue Stick. I get it at Wal Mart for like $1.50 or so. And we all have glue guns laying around. Mod Podge is great. It cost a little more that you might want..but it lasts forever. I have had the same bottle for years. And that 3D double sided tape is great. But, you don’t have to pay a lot for it. I get mine at the dollar store!

*Speaking of the Dollar Store, I love to find things at the Dollar Store to Embellish. I got these frames at the Dollar Store…gave them a little Hybrid love and what a great gift! The wooden letters came form the craft store but they were only like $5.00 for a huge pack of all different letters. I’ve been using them forever.

The flowers on this frame are not from the store. They are digi flowers from the kit I used, I just cut them out and inked the edges! Fold them a little on the edges. They look great!

*I get frames at the Thrift Store too! I even find craft supplies like ribbon, embroidery floss, buttons,  glitter etc at Thrift Stores! You just have to look! Yard Sales are great too!

*Another great thing to have is distress ink. Start out with one color like black or brown. It’s only about $3.00. I actually only have those 2 colors and use them on almost all my hybrid projects.

*Distressing the edges on your projects really gives a nice finished look. You can go to the craft store and buy special “Distressing Tools” but, why not just go grab a piece of sandpaper out of the garage, a nail file works great too.  You just need something that will “rough up” your edges a bit.

*A lot of times if you want to make a card or use one of the nifty “Hybrid Template” you will need to “Crease before folding.” Your fold will turn out way nicer id you crease them first. But, of course you don’t need any fancy tools for this either. You can use a magazine for a mat, an envelope or book for a straight edge if you don’t have a ruler, and even a butter knife or credit card will work as a “bone folder.”

*Now of course you will need a printer, ink and paper. My favorite paper is Epson Matte Photo Paper, but you can use cardstock too.

Now just get creative! Think of things in a different way. If you see a project that calls for “Chipboard” use a cereal box instead.

Like I used on this project….

How about these…I made them from coasters. Yes, those coasters they give you at Restaurants. Check these out….

So, come on! Do some Hybrid! You know you want to! 🙂 How about starting with GingerScraps “Sweet Cards” Challenge! Greeting cards are a super great way to get started in Hybrid!

$1 Bake Sale!

Behind the Scrapbook

So far we’ve had a fabulous summer… lots of fun, adventure, trips and visitors!! Jodi has recently had some special visitors as well….

Jodi’s sister in law came for a visit! It was very special because although she used to live close to her (her in PA and Jodi in NJ) she moved to Israel when Jodi was pregnant with her oldest. Then they moved from there to Colorado. She had a baby and Jodi had another baby so she had never met either of Jodi’s kids and Jodi had never met her youngest. They had a great time catching up and Rebekah (Jodi’s daughter) got along great with her cousins! She especially took a shining to Elizabeth, the oldest. John and Jodi haddn’t seen her in about 4 years and boy did she get big!

Jodi gave me some photos to share with you…

Jodi’s SIL Patty, holding her nephew for the first time.

The cousins playing in Bekah’s room the first day they visited.

It’s amazing how they have never met but warmed right up to each other right away, oh to be like a child.

The next day they went to the zoo. This is Elizabeth, Rebekah, Elijah and Patty.

Rebekah and Elizabeth were inseparable! (I remember being like this with my cousins when we were young)

Then yesterday they just hung out here at Jodi’s house and ordered pizza.  YUM!

Isaiah, Elizabeth, Rebekah and Elijah

Jodi’s Hubby and his sister and their kids…

This last photo Jodi edited. She really wanted a picture of all of them but John’s dad was here and since he was itching to get into a picture she just couldn’t tell him she wanted just her family so she let him get into the next shot. By the time she was done, everyone was ready to be done with the photo shoot so she didn’t have a chance to get into any photos. Oh well, the life of the photographer lol (I’ve been there). Jodi took several pictures but John’s dad was always making a goofy face or looking at Elijah so I just got rid of him. Jodi didn’t get to be in the picture but at least she was able to manufacture a picture of the two families

(minus Jodi  ).

Can you spot the differences?

Here’s the before….

And the after….

I think she did a fantastic job!! I have a few photos I should do this with. Especially having kids… you know how hard it is to get all your kids looking and smiling at the same time and place in one photo… like never!

It’s always a challenge when you have family that lives far away. It just means we all have to be a bit better at keeping in touch and sending those photos!! We have family in five countries!! I spent the morning on facebook chatting with family in Scotland:)

How about you?? Do you have any family that live far away?? How do you keep in touch??
