Kit Spotlight- School Is Cool!

Well it’s about that time! Time to start the designer spotlight back up! ScrappyCocoa here, and I have really been missing out on some great Gingerscraps products! Well, I did have a baby- one month ago- so I have been busy, but I am ready to get back in the action! One thing I love about this time time of year is the back to school frenzy. I’m not in school, nor do I have school age children, but when I was a school girl I LOVED back to school season. The new supplies, new teachers, seeing friends again and best of all the new clothes! Kathy Winters Designs has this adorable school kit to scrap all those Back To School memories. Here is a look at the adorable papers in this kit -16 of them!

I like to ask the designers a few questions about the kit. Here is what Kathy had to say-

1) The School Is Cool kit came from a request from a fellow scrapper. She’s a teacher and she was looking for a kit to use with some school photos and class projects with the kids.

2) When I sit down to design a kit, I already have a color palette chosen and a general idea of what I want to include to match the theme of the kit. I generally make my papers first because they take the least amount of time. I then move on to the elements because I sometimes struggle with what I want to include and I don’t like to use the same kinds of elements over and over again. I try to keep each kit looking fresh.

3) My scrap zone always includes a little Smooth Jazz on my MP3 player and a Yorkie and Doxie sitting under my desk. I work until they can’t stand it anymore and then I take a break, clear my head, and take them outside for a little play time. Sometimes, it’s just what I need to inspire me to spend a few more hours at the computer.

Here is the kit entirely- Isn’t it fabulous? I love the owl, chalk board, school bus, and word tickets. This kit is adorable!

Here is some great inspiration I found at the GS Gallery- {images are linked for credits}

Aren’t those great? Now, I couldn’t leave you without a little something, something could I? I made adorable little back to school boxes for my nieces and filled them with candy. I promise they were way cute… unfortunately my husband gave the boxes away before I had the chance to take pictures! Sad! We are in the middle of moving, else I’d print another one! Too bad the printer is boxed away! ANYWAY~ I made a little hybrid printable for ya’ll! Hope you enjoy and make sure you check out this kit in the GS Shoppe!

Get your School is Cool box HERE

Please note that the outline is on a separate layer and there just for reference of where to fold! Then you tuck the top flaps around each other in a counter-clockwise direction. Tie a ribbon and viola! Cute little box!

Forum and Gallery down

Hi ladies,

You may have noticed… the forum and gallery are down. Well at the moment they are.. hopefully it will be back up before I wake up in the morning!

The issue is… we have gotten too big for our britches. GingerScraps is growing like crazy! Which is super exciting- only downside- my shared server is having trouble keeping up. I knew this day was coming… time for our own dedicated server!!

The site should be restored soon and then we will upgrade to a dedicated server- but I will not be changing hosts- just upgrading, which they have told me  “goes almost seamlessly” so fingers crossed for that!

ok I am headed to bed…. hopping when I wake up GS is up and running again 🙂

Thank for your patients and understanding!

Ginger

Behind the Scrapbook….

It’s that time of year again!! Whoot Whoot!! The kids are back in school!! Nah nah nah nah nah! Well I know around my house my kids are excited to see all their friends… it’s been a long busy summer so I think I’m ready too:)

Here are Julie’s kids first day back… all smiles!!

Julie has 2 kids in High School!

And Tyler started Kindergarten…with a few tears  He just wants to stay home with Mommy and Daddy and Travis and play.

Yay Tyler!!! I’m sure you’re going to love it!! I’m not sure how it is for everyone else but I have to say I had a really hard time when my kids started school…. they grow up so fast!!!

Anna may not be going to school this year but she also had a big change in her life!

Rachel of Pretty in Green told me about her littlest one’s milestone of getting a big bed. It’s amazing how fast they grow up! Rachel said Ana just loves her new big girl bed, and has slept on it every night sofar. She told me how crazy of a difference it is between her 2 kids Gage screamed and got into everything when he should have been sleeping, and would pass out on the floor. Ana hasn’t screamed once nor has she even gotten out of bed to play, she just sleeps! Isn’t that funny! Look at this adorable layout she made for this milestone ( used kit Rejoice by Terri’s thing o my jigs)

oh and she told me about how she almost lost these pics and a few others but her Sister in law was able to retrive them off her card, thank goodness, these pics are to cute!

Journaling: Such a Big Girl, you were so ready for your
big girl bed! once we laid it down you sat
down on it first and then jumped a few times
then you had to grab your Dora and a blanket
and lay down, you kept saying, nite nite and
pretended to sleep. your such a sweetie. your
first week with the bed you never screamed
once you stayed in bed all night sleeping sound.
you even started to put your self to bed when
mommy would say bed time. your growing up
to fast, your my baby!

SO have your kids hit any milestones lately?? My youngest is in grade 7 this year… so no more elementary school for us anymore… 🙁 Kinda makes me sad!!

Behind the Scrapbook the Real Lives of GingerScraps!

Hey there girlfriends! Hope you had a great week, I know the ladies at GingerScraps have been really busy with visits from the tooth fairy , vacations to picturesque locations, meeting old and new friends and helping cure Cancer… pretty good for one week I think!!

Here’s the scoop…

Jodi’s daughter Rebekah got a visit from the tooth fairy! She has been seeing the dentist for work on her teeth and 2 had to be removed. Rebekah was a trooper though and was happy to learn about the tooth fairy. That night she did not put her teeth under her pillow because the tooth fairy didn’t have anything for her yet, but the next day when Rebekah woke up and said “it didn’t work” Jodi explained that the teeth had to be under the pillow for it to work. So the next night Rebekah put her teeth under the pillow. The next morning Jodi asked Rebekah if the tooth fairy came. She threw her pillow off her bed and said “she did!” and was happy to see 2 gold $1 coins in the place of her teeth.
After Rebekah’s teeth were removed she had to be on a soft food diet, so after having a dinner of macaroni and cheese, she had some chocolate pudding. That’s what’s all over her face in some of the pictures.

Rebekah went into her room and put on some of her princess clothes and said that she was the tooth fairy. So Jodi gave her the teeth the dentist gave them and Rebekah posed for some pictures.

What a cute tooth fairy!

This is Rebekah showing off her two gold coins that the tooth fairy had left her.

Julie went on a little road trip with her Family and Friends! So much fun and so beautiful! I’m a little jealous!! What a beautiful place!

Lake Tahoe

In Virgina City after the “Shootout”

Spotted having lunch…. here’s what Rachel had to say….

Thursday I got to meet Stephanie in person for the first time. We met for lunch and had as much conversation as my kiddos would let me. It was exciting getting together with a friend I’ve known for about 2 years.

And I got to see baby Delilah! Oh yes be jealous!

Mandy wanted to share with you a special moment….

My daughters boyfriend Ben and his younger sister Hannah took part in the Weekend to End Womens Cancer in memory of their mom Cheryl who lost her battle with Cancer a couple years ago. It was a 60 km two day walk. This was Ben’s 4th year walking and Hannah’s second year walking. Up to date Ben has raised over $12,000 towards the fight against Womens Cancers. Ben’s mom Cheryl was a volunteer and walker for this organization for 7 years before she herself had Cancer. Her team Northern Knockers still walk in her memory every year thanks to her kids. Next year my daughter Kelsey will be joining the team as a walker and I will be volunteering as a pit crew.

Each walker pledges to raise at least $2000 and walk 60 km

Her are a few photos… I was pretty busy running around that I only managed a couple shots This is day two and 53 km in!

L to R- Dennis (Bens dad), Jackie (Hannahs BFF), Ben (playing with his Ipod), Hannah (looking too upbeat for just walking 50 km!), and Kelsey (she walked the last 7 KM with Ben in her flip flops!!)

And off they go….

And here the are crossing the finish line!!!

Have you ever volunteered your time to an organisation or raised money for charity?? If so tell us about it!!

I’m off to dig up some more dirt:) Hope you have a fun filled weekend!

Happy Scrapping:)

Today I’d like to spotlight Julies Say Click…Take a Pic challenge. Anyone else have a kiddo that watches Diego? Yeah I can’t even think of this challenge without getting that little jingle in my head. 🙂  Okay so the purpose of this challenge is to hone in on our picture taking skills, after all it is the pictures that our scrapblooking revolves around, so we want them to be good! Julie is a photographer and knows how to get that perfect shot. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited for these challenges to learn more about taking photos.

This month the technique is Angles. Here’s some examples she gave.

Got take some cool angled pictures then you can either put them in a layout or post them as is for Say Click…Take a Pic Then come back here and post the link to your LO or picture in the gallery and post it in a comment here. Behind the Scrapbook

I had to share this wonderful LO by Scrappy Cocoa… If you haven’t heard we have a new Gingerbread baby in the house!

Steph and Tim had a baby girl last week and named her Delilah Jae!! What a cutie! Here’s a LO Steph did of the big day! I love the title… this was her first peek at her new baby girl… the picture says it all!!

Congrats Ulrich family!!

It’s August my favorite month of the year and my busiest!! I’m trying to get through my summer bucket list and not having much success as I keep adding activities to it! This may have to be a summer/fall bucket list! It’s a hard list to get through when my main funsticker (a person who sticks to your fun) is on vacation. My Julie has been in Haida Gwaii for the past week with my ma and I’ve been missing her so…. here she right after catching her first fish EVER!!! Thank goodness she can keep in touch texting photos. I hate to miss any of her firsts!

Have you seen the Telus commercial with the house hippos?? I have always said if there was such a thing as a house hippo I’d have one for sure!! So what does hubby bring home for me….

What a sweet heart…. I (heart) him!

We’ve also had quite a bit of this….

Does Mother Nature not know it’s no longer spring!! I love the rain but I can’t keep up with my yard:( So I should go I have grass to mow, dirt to dig and trees to plant… none of this is on my summer bucket list…. I’m just thinking of it as staying active… every little step is a calorie burned and a job well done:)

Have a great day

~Mandy
