Good morning, Scrappers!! This week, we have a new designer joining the team. The designers have also seemed to really fall “in love” with the upcoming holiday season! Lots of love-related kits! But they’re not all! There are a few fun surprises as well!

Now, I have the pleasure to introduce you to the newest member of the Gingerscraps design team! Melissa, of Lissykay Designs, is joining us! Help us welcome her!

We asked her to give us a little info on herself, and this is what she had to tell us:

Before I tell you about myself, I need to express my excitement over being a part of the GingerScraps family. It has been a whirlwind of a ride, but I am thrilled to have the chance to jump in share all the ideas swimming in my head.
My name is Melissa and I have been scrapbooking for 17 years. In that time I have taught lots of classes and for those classes I have designed many paper craft templates. Making the switch to digi was hard only because I thought my paper stash was vital to my creative process. When I finally made the switch, I berated myself for waiting so long.

A little about myself: I am a native Texan who now has to suffer through the cold of North Salt Lake, Utah. I am married to Alan, who is from New Zealand and hates the cold as much as I do. I have a 13-year old daughter Keziah — the subject of most my layouts — who keeps me on my toes and is responsible for a few of my gray hairs. I also have five amazing stepdaughters — Renee, Leanne, Lisa, Rachelle and Hayley — who all live in New Zealand with their own little families. (We also have a cat we just call Kitten, despite the fact she is 4 yrs old. She doesn’t like me much, unless she needs to be saved from my mother visiting.)

I got into template designing quite by accident. After posting creative team layouts for several months, I kept receiving requests for the names of templates I used for my layouts. Since they were my original designs, there were no names to give. Finally, one gal asked if I wouldn’t mind making a template. I thought it over, spoke to the designer whose kit I used. She encouraged me to make the template and give it away on my blog. I suppose this sounds cliché, but the rest is history.
The name LissyKay is one I used for my paper crafting designs. It is a nickname my family started. I did not like the name Missy. (There was a not so nice girl in my elementary school who went by Missy, and in my childish brain, I associated the name with her.) So my mother adopted the name Lissy. And being from the South, you always use your middle name. Thus, Lissy Kay stuck. Even to this day, all my nieces and nephews call me Lissy.

I don’t know if I can put into coherent words how I feel when I see others using something I created. First, I am honored someone liked it enough to pick it up. But to see what a scrapper creates with the foundation I provided is both exciting and humbling. Second, I truly am inspired by the world around me. I try to put my own interpretation onto paper — or my Photoshop canvas. Everything has both a purpose and a meaning. Hopefully there is a little bit of me in my work. What is quite important to me is that most of my templates are inspired from layouts I have made or from the hundreds of sketches I have drawn.
